SEDL’s Commitment to Community

Our staff is committed to giving back to the community to support schools, families, and children in low-income and underserved neighborhoods.

Each year, SEDL adopts a Title I school that serves a low-income neighborhood near our headquarters in Austin, Texas.

In 2011, our annual holiday auction and arts, crafts, and bake sale raised almost $700 for the dance program at Barbara Jordan Elementary. Folklorico dancers from the school also performed at the SEDL Holiday Luncheon.

Staff from SEDL participate each year in the Adopt-a-Family program, which provides families facing hard times with support. Each holiday season, staff members adopt two families and purchase gifts the families have requested. Staff then deliver the gifts along with cash donations to the families.

The 2011 Adopt-a-Family drive raised $1,645 and delivered boxes of personalized gifts for two local families. Staff member Luis Martinez spearheaded the drive.
