Guidance for the ISBE 21st CCLC Annual Statewide Evaluation Survey

In this webinar, the statewide evaluation team at EDC reviewed requirements for the annual survey that grantees need to complete at the end of the grant year. Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Afterschool

In this webinar, social and emotional learning (SEL) experts from Big Thought shared their ‘signature practices’—warm welcomes, engaging practices, and optimistic closings—for embedding SEL in afterschool. Big Thought guest presenters described key elements of the SEL Dallas curriculum and helped webinar attendees understand how to differentiate SEL lessons by age group. Finally, presenters shared strategies and lessons on how afterschool program leaders can understand staff and youth self-care as healthcare and essential to the work we do in afterschool.

Staffing Up: Strategies to Build a Strong Workforce

Cohort 2013 Grantee Evaluation Site Visits

In this webinar, EDC (the statewide evaluation for the Illinois 21st CCLC program), provided information about the evaluation site visits that will be conducted with Cohort 2013 grants as they come to the end of their grant extension. EDC shared information about what these visits will entail, what grantees can expect, and how grantees can prepare. EDC also shared guidelines for Cohort 2013 grantees submitting their final local evaluation reports at the end of the grant.

Responding to Health Needs in Afterschool

Are you prepared to respond to the diverse health needs of your afterschool community? In this webinar, ISBE’s state School Nurse Principal Consultants presented health resources available to afterschool programs and shared tips for how to prepare for emergency situations at your site. In addition, guest presenters discussed how to plan and implement responsible community health referrals to support your full afterschool community. Participants also had an opportunity to ask questions and practice applying tools to your individual afterschool program needs.

If You've Got It, Use It: Spending for Impactful Programs

Part of the job for afterschool administrators is to secure and allocate program resources, from funding to transportation. This resource-rich moment of opportunity for afterschool programs, where many are experiencing an influx of resources, can create special challenges such as being able to quickly implement new or expanded programs with quality.

In this webinar, the Illinois Quality Afterschool team guided participants in planning for impactful spending that can deepen learning opportunities for students and support sustainable programming. Participants engaged in exercises to think through how to set goals and indicators around spending, forecast a budget for new (or existing) initiatives, and measure and communicate the impact of the spending. Throughout the webinar, presenters provided useful tools and program examples to illustrate innovative and effective ways to use your resources.

Evaluation Overview for Fiscal Year 2021

Outdoor and Environmental Learning in Afterschool Settings

Now is the right time to think about how we can successfully take our programming out of the building and give students’ environmental education room to grow! In this webinar, participants hear from guest presenter Abbie Enlund, executive director of the Environmental Education Association of Illinois. Enlund shares strategies and resources to help afterschool programs offer high-quality learning opportunities outdoors. Focus on SEL: Introducing CASEL's Re-opening Roadmap

This webinar provides an opportunity for afterschool practitioners to think of ways to prioritize the social and emotional learning (SEL) and development needs of the young people they serve. Jessy Newman, senior researcher with the American Institutes for Research (AIR), shares information about the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) SEL Roadmap process and connected tools. Empowering Youth to Take Action on School Climate and Culture

In this webinar, Illinois Quality Afterschool staff lead a conversation on how afterschool programs can empower youth to use school climate and culture data to address equity issues within their schools and programs. Staff from the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence share information about their inspirED program. The inspirED approach provides a straightforward structure, open-source online resources, and virtual coaching supports to help programs empower students to take action on issues of school climate and culture. Each year, EDC produces a report with the latest aggregated data and findings about the program. Trauma-Informed Practices

Trauma-informed care and practice offer a framework for practitioners that is grounded in understanding, recognizing, and responding to the impacts of all types of human trauma. Youth who have experienced or are experiencing trauma in their daily lives need physical, psychological, and emotional safety to rebuild their sense of self and become empowered citizens. The presentation features Sarah Bowie and Keith Harris with the Alternative Schools Network (ASN), and Project Director Michael Hannon of the ASN 21st CCLC program. This webinar shares the importance of trauma-informed practice to not only youth, but their families and the community at large.

SEL Basics: How Afterschool Programs Can Incorporate Social and Emotional Learning

Presented by social-emotional learning (SEL) expert Jessy Newman of American Institutes for Research and program manager Mitch Hendrickson of Youth Guidance, this webinar provides an informative overview of SEL and how it can best be implemented with students in the afterschool setting.

Agriculture Afterschool: Cultivating STEM Success

Afterschool programs that promote agriculture literacy offer a unique opportunity to integrate STEM disciplines into programming. This webinar explores agriculture education resources, including Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom (IATC), and discusses how 21st CCLC programs can embed agriculture education strategies to support youth development, career planning, and student success.
