Afterschool Focus: Social-Emotional Learning

Although the 21st CCLC program often focuses on academic enrichment, an increase in students’ social-emotional skills is also one of the goals of the Illinois 21st CCLC program.

News from the Field: CCAP Students Learn About the Art and Science of Music Recording

This past summer, the Center for Community Arts Partnerships (CCAP) at Columbia College Chicago 21st CCLC offered Audio Insights, a summer program that enabled eight high school students to learn about live and recorded sound design, engineering, and production.

Lights on Afterschool

Lights on Afterschool takes place on October 23 this year. Organized by the Afterschool Alliance, this nationwide event celebrates afterschool programs and their important role in the lives of children, families, and communities. Registration information and resources are available online.

New Literacy Resources

The U.S. Department of Education's You for Youth (Y4Y) site has new resources. There is a new litearcy content module, including an overview, implementation strategies, training resources, and tools for instructors.

Grants and Other Opportunities

Wild Ones Seeds for Education Grant Program. This grant program provides resources for places of learning to plant and maintain natural landscapes. Project goals should focus on the enhancement and development of an appreciation for nature using native plants. Projects must emphasize involvement of students and volunteers in all phases of development and increase the educational value of the site. Information is available on the Wild Ones website. The grant deadline is October 15.

Classics for Kids Stringed Instrument Grants. The Classics for Kids Foundation aims to bridge the funding gap and enhance school music programs by providing matching grants for new stringed instruments. Additional information can be found on the Classics for Kids website. Grants are awarded quarterly, and the next deadline is on December 31.
