Staff Professional Development Sessions: Academic Enrichment
Embedding Academic Content into Afterschool Programs
This session provides an overview of infusing academic content into afterschool enrichment activities. It actively involves participants in structured activities on how to embed academics into their own afterschool program. (Three hours)
Making the Transition to Academic Enrichment
This presentation relates the experiences of a former elementary school principal in connecting an afterschool language program to the school day, how student achievement improved, and how this experience compares with findings from the work of the National Partnership for Quality Afterschool Learning project.
Coaching Your Staff to Success Using the Afterschool Training Toolkit
The National Partnership for Quality Afterschool Learning is developing a toolkit to help afterschool programs build their capacity to provide rich academic content through engaging and challenging activities. Interim tools in the areas of literacy and mathematics are now online. Additional tools for science, the arts, technology, and homework help will be available in the coming year. This session discusses the purpose of the toolkit and gives participants suggestions on how to use the literacy and mathematics components. In addition to learning and sharing ideas for how to use the material to academically enrich program activities, participants will learn how they can use the toolkit to provide staff development.
