Staff Professional Development Sessions: Technology
Infusing Afterschool Learning Experiences with Technology
Going beyond the spreadsheet for data collection, technology provides many opportunities for highly motivating and exciting projects to use in afterschool programs that will support student achievement. This presentation provides an overview of ways that technology can enhance your afterschool curriculum with online projects, webquests, handheld computers, and more.
Using Technology to Infuse Content into Afterschool
This presentation offers a hands-on technology experience that can be easily replicated in an afterschool environment. Participants work in small groups at learning centers using a variety of technology tools, including a digital camera, an Internet database, a spreadsheet, and Web sites. Using the local community as its central theme, this activity provides many opportunities to integrate academic content areas with an afterschool project. A closing discussion allows participants to share ideas, projects, tools, and resources. (Session requires access to computers, digital cameras, and, if possible, the Internet.)
