Projections of Education Statistics to 2021
The National Center for Education Statistics has released the Projections of Education Statistics to 2021. The publication includes statistics on enrollment, graduates, teachers, and expenditures in elementary and secondary schools for the past 14 years and projections to 2021. Key findings address the following:
- Enrollment: Total public and private elementary and secondary school enrollment was 55 million in Fall 2010, representing a 6% increase since Fall 1996. From Fall 2010 to Fall 2021, enrollment in elementary and secondary schools is expected to increase 7%.
- High School Graduation: The number of high school graduates increased nationally by 28% between 1996–97 and 2008–09. The number of high school graduates is projected to be 2% higher in 2021–22 than in 2008–09.
- Expenditures: Expenditures for public elementary and secondary education are projected to increase 24% in constant dollars between school years 2008–09 and 2021–22.

FOCUS Technical Brief
Dr. Tom Chau and the team at the Infinity Communication Access Lab were recently recognized by the Center on Knowledge Translation for Technology Transfer, of which SEDL is a partner. The Lab serves the 130 students who attend Sunny View Public School in Toronto and who have a range of developmental conditions. Staff at the Lab aim to develop solutions that are customized to each student’s needs and that can be transferred into the actual environments where the child lives and learns. FOCUS No. 36 outlines the organization’s work and knowledge translation strategies.

NEW AFTERSCHOOL WORK
SEDL has been awarded a contract to assist the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and its 21st Century Community Learning Center (CCLC) programs in delivering high-quality afterschool programming. During the contract, SEDL will provide technical assistance and professional development to Illinois 21st CCLCs.
