NAESP Announces Read Aloud Award

Picture of boy reading. The National Association of Elementary School Principals has announced it is developing a new program to annually recognize a quality, read aloud, children's book. The goals of this award program are to

• Recognize and support quality children's books
• Develop a love of reading within students
• Encourage principals to read to children

The first NAESP Read Aloud Award will be presented at the 2007 National Convention in Seattle, WA. The initial phase includes soliciting titles of books that principals have found to be well received by students. A focus group of NAESP members will then review the nominated choices and compile a shorter list. NAESP members may then vote for their favorite title.

To begin the selection process for the first honor award, NAESP is asking members to nominate a favorite title. They are looking for books that are currently in print and therefore readily available to our members. If you have a book that you have enjoyed reading to children, please submit the title, author, illustrator, and publisher along with your name to childrensbookaward@naesp.org.
