Available at elementary, ms or hs levels, these kits offer refined growing environments that permit in-or out-door gardening. The ms kit (reviewed here) includes the growing unit, standards-based lessons and a guide kids use to engage in gardening.

The EarthBox materials are available with several options, but the basic product is a kit with a self-contained growing system that uses tested agricultural methods to grow plants indoors or outdoors. Though the middle school Kit was reviewed for the Consumers Guide, EarthBox products are available for all grade levels of after school programs.  The materials included with an EarthBox Kit provide standards-based lessons and a guide that afterschool participants can use to design and grow gardens.  These EarthBox gardens offer a wealth of opportunities to engage in hands-on learning about gardening and planting without leaving the afterschool space and no weeding, hoeing or digging or much worry about the weather.
