Annotation:
The purpose of this guide is to assist educators in engaging culturally and linguistically diverse families and community members in school-related activities. It offers strategies designed to help schools connect to their minority communities. The guide includes activities for connecting with minority community leaders, communicating with minority parents and community members, involving parents by alleviating language barriers and providing a friendly school environment. Suggestions are provided to help schools rethink their approach and become more knowledgeable about overcoming the cultural and language barriers that make participation by minority members difficult. While this action guide provides an overview of the topic it does not provide an in-depth examination of all the issues potentially involved in engaging hard to reach, diverse families in student success.
