Citation:Zetlin, A. G., & MacLeod, E. (1995). A school-university partnership working toward the restructure of an urban school and community. Education and Urban Society, 27(4), 411-420. EJ511139.

Annotation:
The purpose of this case study is to describe a school-university partnership that served as a catalyst for educational reform in an elementary school. The reform effort, based on a preliminary assessment of the schoolÕs programs, focused on curriculum and instruction reform, parent opportunities for participation, and the development of integrated school, health, and social services. The authors report that early analysis of achievement data showed gains of a few percentile points in reading scores. The school also demonstrated dramatic gains in student attendance. The number of parent volunteers and the number of parents attending school events also increased. Instructional practices have changed as a result of the reform effort as well. Data collection and data analysis methods were not described, so results should be viewed with some caution. Also, the role of the university partners is not described in great detail.
