The Concerns-Based Adoption Model (CBAM) is a conceptual framework that provides tools and techniques for assessing and facilitating reform in an educational environment. The dimensions of CBAM can be used to examine the components of an innovation, to track the progress of implementation, to report the findings objectively, and to design interventions or strategies that will move the process forward. Individuals conducting research or evaluating reform initiatives may also find these tools helpful in measuring the implementation of specific reforms.

This 5-part webinar series will introduce the three CBAM tools: Innovation Configuration, Stages of Concern, and Levels of Use. Sessions will provide an in-depth exploration of the Innovation Configuration and instruction on using the Stages of Concern Questionnaire. Levels of Use (LoU) will be introduced but becoming an effective LoU interviewer requires 3 days of face-to-face training. Participants will have an opportunity to develop a plan for implementing CBAM with a specific change initiative.

How do leaders create the conditions in which a climate of trust and support facilitate teacher growth and student learning? Building one’s skills and knowledge of instructional leadership is critical but not sufficient. The first step to creating a climate that promotes open, trusting relationships and collaboration among all staff members is to experience that climate of trust firsthand. The Courage to Lead model was developed by Parker Palmer, author of The Courage to Teach, and provides participants with the ability to sustain and renew their passion and commitment to school leadership. A professional learning community (PLC) is a powerful, research-based method for transforming schools into vibrant centers of learning—for both educators and students. In high-performing PLCs, teachers and administrators continuously seek and share learning, leading to improved performance, classroom instruction, and student achievement.

SEDL’s PLC Academy equips participants with the skills and tools they need to implement PLCs, maximize their effectiveness, and make efficient use of resources. The driving question is, “What do teachers and administrators learn in a PLC, and how do they use that knowledge to improve classroom instruction and student learning?” The academy consists of three sessions that build on each other, necessitating attendance at all three.
