The Capacity Building Institute is co-sponsored by the IDEA Partnership at NASDSE's Community of Practice on Transition, the National Dropout Prevention Center for Students with Disabilities, the National Post-School Outcomes Center, and the National Secondary Transition Technical Assistance Center. The Institute will begin the evening of Monday, May 6 at 5:00 p.m. and end at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2013. The IDEA Partnership's Community of Practice on Transition will again host its annual meeting from Sunday, May 5 through Monday, May 6.

During the Institute, interdisciplinary state teams will engage in a continuous improvement process to gain secondary transition knowledge and skills, capacity building strategies, and participate in facilitated team planning to target improved transition services, high school completion rates, and post-school outcomes of students with disabilities.

SECC and Great Teachers and Leaders Collaboration: Student Learning Objectives Training

The Southeast Comprehensive Center (SECC) and the Center on Great Teachers and Leaders (CGTL) will collaborate to provide a one-day workshop that provides a basic understanding of Student Learning Objectives (SLOs), their role in evaluation, the national landscape of SLO use, the SLO process, and the benefits and challenges of using SLOs in educator evaluation systems. The workshop will include examples of state and district templates, rubrics, guidebooks, and scoring schemes as well as general solutions for addressing the common challenges of SLO implementation.

The institute is designed to provide teams of administrators, math coaches, and K–6 lead teachers a firm foundation in the fundamentals of Singapore mathematics instruction and the Five Easy Steps to a Balanced Math Program. Attendees will work with a team of experts and consultants to create a plan for learning. Dr. Yeap Ban Har will be returning to the third annual National Singapore Math Summer Institute in Denver, Colorado, on July 30–August 1. Attendees will work closely for 3 days with Dr. Ban Har and other mathematics experts in small sessions.
