May 6–9 2013 | 2013 Annual Capacity Building Institute The Capacity Building Institute is co-sponsored by the IDEA Partnership at NASDSE's Community of Practice on Transition, the National Dropout Prevention Center for Students with Disabilities, the National Post-School Outcomes Center, and the National Secondary Transition Technical Assistance Center. The Institute will begin the evening of Monday, May 6 at 5:00 p.m. and end at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2013. May 6–10 2013 | ASCD Whole Child Virtual Conference: Moving From Implementation to Sustainability to Culture The Whole Child Virtual Conference is a free, online virtual conference connecting school sites and districts around the world in working toward a focus on the whole child. Jun 9–11 2013 | Tots & Technology Summer Conference: Learning in the Elementary Classroom This is an educational technology conference for Pre-K through 5th-grade educators to explore learning opportunities for elementary students, strategies for curriculum integration, and technology-rich learning environments. It is for teachers, principals, technology and curriculum specialists, librarians, and others involved in integrating technology into early education. Sessions will include presentations (a presenter-led discussion sharing best practices, strategies, tools, and/or techniques) and BYOD (Bring Your Own Device—interactive sessions with hands-on learning for participants using the attendees’ personal equipment, such as iPads, laptops, etc.). Jun 12–14 2013 | NAEP Database Training Seminar: Using the NAEP Database for Research and Policy Discussion The seminar is designed for university faculty and graduate students, education researchers, and policy analysts with strong statistical skills (data analysis, measurement theory, use of SPSS). It will provide participants with hands-on experience using software specific to the NAEP database. Topics to be covered include an overview of NAEP design and database contents, as well as methodological and technical issues associated with analyzing NAEP data. There is no charge for the seminar. The institute is designed to provide teams of administrators, math coaches, and K–6 lead teachers a firm foundation in the fundamentals of Singapore mathematics instruction and the Five Easy Steps to a Balanced Math Program. Attendees will work with a team of experts and consultants to create a plan for learning. Dr. Yeap Ban Har will be returning to the third annual National Singapore Math Summer Institute in Denver, Colorado, on July 30–August 1. May 22 2013 | SECC and Great Teachers and Leaders Collaboration: Student Learning Objectives Training The Southeast Comprehensive Center (SECC) and the Center on Great Teachers and Leaders (CGTL) will collaborate to provide a one-day workshop that provides a basic understanding of Student Learning Objectives (SLOs), their role in evaluation, the national landscape of SLO use, the SLO process, and the benefits and challenges of using SLOs in educator evaluation systems. The workshop will include examples of state and district templates, rubrics, guidebooks, and scoring schemes as well as general solutions for addressing the common challenges of SLO implementation.
