SEDL works through two regional comprehensive centers (CCs) to build strong leadership at all levels of the educational system. Select the links below to see a list of each CC's specific services.
- Southeast Comprehensive Center (SECC): serves state and local educators in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and South Carolina
- Texas Comprehensive Center (TXCC): serves the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and the 20 regional education service centers (ESCs) in Texas
Professional Development
Available through SEDL’s Center for Professional Learning, the Systemic Leadership Academy offers the following four courses for education leaders:
- Introduction to Courage to Lead: Developed by Parker Palmer, author of The Courage to Teach: Exploring the Inner Landscape of a Teacher's Life, this course teaches leaders how to create a climate of trust and support that facilitates teacher growth and student learning. The course is designed for principals, assistant principals, and district and state department staff.
- Leadership for Changing Schools (Sessions 1 and 2): This two-session course is designed to help district and school leaders understand and apply knowledge about the change process and how it affects individuals. The course was developed by former SEDL scholar emerita Shirley M. Hord.
- Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) Academy: The PLC Academy provides three sessions on building effective PLCs in schools and districts: (1) Demystifying PLCs and Creating Shared Visions and Values; (2) Creating Shared Leadership and Application of Learning; and (3) Developing Supportive Conditions and Sharing Professional Practice.
- Professional Teaching and Learning Cycle (PTLC): The PTLC is an ongoing, job-embedded professional development approach in which teachers collaborate to plan and implement standards-based lessons. This “train the trainer” session will introduce participants to the six steps in the PTLC and the leadership roles that support PTLC.
