Examples of Significant Work
Southeast Comprehensive Center (SECC): The SECC, which SEDL manages, works with the state departments of education of Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and South Carolina to build their capacity to assist districts and schools engaged in improvement efforts. The specific type of assistance varies by state. For example, in Louisiana, the SECC provided professional development on the tools of the Concerns-Based Adoption Model for the state’s Distinguished Educators, who support leaders at schools in need of improvement.
Texas Comprehensive Center (TXCC): The TXCC, which SEDL houses, works with the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and the state’s 20 regional education service centers (ESCs) to build their capacity to turn around underachieving schools and promote strong educational leadership. For example, the TXCC is providing ESC staff with professional development to help district and school leaders implement a systemic approach to school improvement and adopt leadership practices that will help sustain that improvement.
Past Work
Regional Educational Laboratory (REL) (2000–2006): SEDL’s past REL work included examining the role of leaders in the school improvement process and in building professional learning communities (PLCs). REL staff also developed tools and training to improve the skills of education leaders.
Education Leaders Fellowship Program: This program offered administrators and teacher leaders summer training opportunities to learn research-based strategies and skills for leading their schools and districts to success.
