| María is the Assistant Director for LOTE at the Texas Education Agency and an Executive Board Member of Southwest Conference on Language Teaching. She began her teaching career in 1972, teaching at the high school level in Harlendale ISD and Northside ISD, both in San Antonio. She then served for 17 years as Instructional Specialist for International Languages in Northside ISD where she supervised French, German, Japanese, Latin, Russian, and Spanish programs. During that time, she was involved in the study of the Elementary Dual Language Program, which was implemented in 2001-2002, and was instrumental in the implementation of the multimedia language labs for the district. María served as President of TFLA for 1999-2000 and is a frequent conference presenter. She was a member of the original LOTE CED training facilitator corps. | |
