The late management and leadership expert Peter Drucker once said, “Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things.” The latest issue of SEDL Letter, the magazine published by the Southwest Educational Development Laboratory, discusses the “right things” educational leaders can do to make certain their students are well served. Articles are primarily focused on strategies for principals, but one article discusses how school boards are devoting more attention to student achievement and less to the three Bs—budgets, buildings, and buses. Another article looks at the effects of Hurricane Katrina on education in the states served by SEDL’s Regional Educational Development Laboratory and two Comprehensive Centers.
