Prior to joining SEDL in December 1997, Dr. Cowan served as an elementary school principal and a junior high school teacher. She has also facilitated Title 1 school improvement efforts through the Region XII Education Service Center in Waco, Texas. Education
Dr. Cowan earned her BS in Secondary Education at the University of Texas at Austin; her MS in Reading at Baylor University in Waco, Texas; and her certification in mid-management and supervision at UT-Austin. She completed her EdD in the Educational Administration Department's Public School Executive Leadership Program at UT-Austin. Her dissertation was titled "Principals' Actions to Influence Change for School Success."
