Erin J. McCann
Project Director
Erin McCann is a Project Director with SEDL's Research and Evaluation (R&E) program. Dr. McCann works with the Southeast Comprehensive Center (SECC) and the Texas Comprehensive Center (TXCC) assisting state education agency staff to design and conduct evaluation efforts. In this role, she consults with state education department staff on developing evaluation plans, designs, and timelines to study the effectiveness of a range of district and school improvement programs. She also assists state staff in creating data collection tools, analyzing and interpreting evaluation results, and developing presentations and workshops for state and district audiences on evaluation topics.

Dr. McCann’s research interests include strategies for turning around low-performing schools; the effects of professional development on teachers, school leadership, and students; and student learning and motivation.
- Research and Evaluation: Dr. McCann has 11 years of experience in research and evaluation using mixed methods of data collection and analyses in various school improvement efforts. Past projects include leading the evaluation of SEDL's work with the Professional Teaching and Learning Cycle in districts in Louisiana and South Carolina and studying the effectiveness of initiatives related to afterschool programs, teacher professional development, English language learners, family and community connections, high school reform, and school improvement support teams.
Prior to joining SEDL in June 2000, Dr. McCann worked as an evaluation consultant and taught undergraduate and graduate courses at the University of Texas, Texas State University, and Austin Community College. Since joining SEDL, she has led and worked collaboratively on a number of evaluation projects, including programs on professional development, comprehensive school reform, and family and community connections with schools, ESL initiatives, High School Completion and Success Grants, and 21st Century Community Learning Center projects. Dr. McCann was also part of a team that developed and tested the Standards Assessment Inventory for the National Staff Development Council. Education
Dr. McCann holds a BA in psychology from the University of Texas at Austin, an MEd in counseling psychology from Texas State University (formerly Southwest Texas State University), and a PhD in educational psychology from the University of Texas at Austin.
