Eric S. Waters
Database Development Associate
Eric Waters is a Database Development Associate with SEDL's Education Systems Support (ESS) program. Mr. Waters develops and manages online database systems and Web applications to support the Texas and Southeast Comprehensive Centers’ work with state departments of education and their clients. He also works with various SEDL clients, including the Texas Education Agency, on projects such as the Texas Early Warning System Tool, a database application that helps schools and districts identify students at risk for high school dropout through the use of research-based indicators. Other duties include working with SEDL corporate and project staff to provide internal data management systems that support project work as well as personnel and business functions.

Mr. Waters’s areas of expertise include Web technologies and data management.
- Technology: Mr. Waters’ experience focuses on Web technologies around data collection and dissemination. His responsibilities include data-driven Web publishing for both the Texas Comprehensive Center and Southeast Comprehensive Center Web sites. In addition, he has more than 10 years of experience with a variety of Web technologies, including html, php, mysql, xml, moodle, and FileMaker xml Web publishing.
- Data Management: Mr. Waters’ data management experience includes a variety of front-end and back-end data systems residing primarily in mysql and FileMaker. Most of these systems are accessible on SEDL’s public Web sites and/or via protected access through SEDL’s firewall. Notable data systems developed by Mr. Waters include SEDL’s corporate client management system, SEDL’s time and leave tracking system (SIMS), and the Texas Early Warning System Tool.
Previously at SEDL, Mr. Waters worked with the Office of Institutional Communications providing staff training as well as developing and maintaining database support systems for both department and corporate clients. Prior to joining SEDL in 1999, Mr. Waters was a fifth and sixth grade technology/robotics teacher for Bastrop Independent School District, for whom he also provided staff development services. Before this position, he worked for Waco ISD as a fourth grade teacher and at Vanguard College Preparatory School as a seventh grade history teacher. Education
Mr. Waters holds a BA in history from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, and an MS in computer information systems (MSCIS) from Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts. SEDL Publications Selected External Publications
