Jill Slack

Photo of Jill  SlackJill Slack is Project Director with SEDL's Improving School Performance program. She plays a lead role in SEDL's reading/literacy-focused initiatives, designing and providing training and ongoing support to state, local, and intermediate agencies in reading, writing, coaching, teacher questioning, and school improvement strategies.

Experience/Education
Prior to joining SEDL in August 1997, Dr. Slack worked for several years as a reading specialist and classroom teacher in a large public school system, where she also served as a site chairperson of the reading and language development programs and received a Chamber of Commerce Award for Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Slack has also worked as an ESL instructor, a research associate/site trainer and program evaluator for the Accelerated Schools Project, and an assistant professor in higher education. She has presented papers and workshops at numerous national, regional, and state conferences.

Dr. Slack received a BA in elementary education from the University of Florida, an MEd with a specialty in reading from Our Lady of Holy Cross College, and a PhD in curriculum and instruction with a minor in educational leadership from the University of New Orleans. She is a certified reading specialist, classroom teacher, ESL instructor, supervisor of instruction, and program evaluator.
