Media Design Specialist

Photo of Magdalena  Acuña Magda Acuña is a Media Design Specialist with SEDL’s Education Systems Support program. Ms. Acuña works with program staff to design and develop Web, print, and multimedia resources and consults with and mentors staff in the development of such products. She also monitors Web sites and adjusts layouts as needed to maintain and meet SEDL’s corporate image and Web standards for aesthetics and accessibility. Ms. Acuña coordinates with SEDL’s Web administrators and database development associate in the html and css coding of numerous SEDL Web sites, including the Texas Comprehensive Center, the Southeast Comprehensive Center, and the corporate Web site. She also assisted in the redesign and coding of SEDL’s National Center for the Dissemination of Disability Research Web site. In addition to her Web and print work, Ms. Acuña provides technical assistance to SEDL staff on multiple software applications.

Areas of Expertise

Ms. Acuña’s technology interests include accessibility, html, and cascading style sheet coding for the Web. She also continues to research and implement new computer applications to stay abreast of the ever-changing Web, print, and computer world.

  • Technology: Ms. Acuña has 20 years of experience working with technology related to print publication layout and design, and more than 15 years of experience in Web site design, coding, publishing, and accessibility standards. She also provides Web site accessibility assessments for SEDL clients.

Experience
Prior to joining SEDL in 1999, Ms. Acuña worked as a graphic designer with the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, where she proposed, managed, and provided Web page and graphic design and authoring support. She also served on the agency’s Web Accessibility Team and was lead in implementing the roll out of the accessible Web site. In addition, she has work experience involving the production of multimedia communications, including layout, design, photo shoots, and writing, and extensive experience with Macintosh and PC computer platforms, desktop publishing, public relations, and events planning.

Education
Ms. Acuña holds a Bachelor of Science in journalism from the University of Colorado-Boulder.
