Stacey L. Joyner
Program Associate
Stacey Joyner is a Program Associate with SEDL's Improving School Performance program. Ms. Joyner helps build state and intermediate agencies' capacity to implement the programs and goals of the No Child Left Behind Act, with a focus on implementing effective literacy practices. She also serves as the Texas Comprehensive Center liaison to the National Center on Instruction and is the former editor of the Center's Texas Focus newsletter. Previously, she served as the editor of the Reading First Notebook, the newsletter for the Reading First program.

- Reading: Ms. Joyner previously served as the reading coordinator for the Idaho Department of Education. She also served as a literacy specialist and teacher trainer for Clark County School District in Las Vegas, Nevada, and began her career as a classroom teacher at the elementary level. Ms. Joyner helps improve reading and literacy instruction through the Professional Teaching and Learning Cycle and supports implementation of an Early Reading First program by providing support in the areas of leadership and sustainability.
- Turning Around Schools: Ms. Joyner’s current work involves helping state and local educators address the goals and requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act. Her focus is on improving instruction and performance in schools that are struggling to meet adequate yearly progress (AYP) benchmarks. She also served on the development team that created SEDL’s Working Systemically approach.
- Early Childhood: Ms. Joyner worked for 11 years in early childhood settings, teaching Title I preK and serving as a primary grades literacy coach. She also served as a trainer for a districtwide K–3 literacy initiative. Currently, Ms. Joyner provides technical assistance and support for an Early Reading First program, and is leading a project to revise the Texas PreK Migrant program’s curriculum. She is also pursuing a doctorate in early childhood education.
Prior to joining SEDL, Ms. Joyner was the reading coordinator for the Idaho State Department of Education. In addition, she has 11 years of teaching experience and served as a reading specialist and teacher trainer for the Clark County School District in Las Vegas, Nevada. Education
Ms. Joyner holds a BA in elementary education from Idaho State University and an MEd in curriculum and instruction from the University of Nevada at Las Vegas.
