The Concerns Based Adoption Model, or CBAM, is a conceptual framework that describes, explains, and predicts probable teacher behaviors throughout the school change process. The three principal diagnostic dimensions of CBAM are:
- Stages of Concern - Seven different reactions that educator experience when they are implementing a new program
- Levels of Use - Eight behavioral profiles that describe a different set of actions and behaviors that educators engage in as they become familiar with and more skilled in using an innovation or adopting a change
- Innovation Configurations - Different ways an innovation may be implemented, shown along a continuum from ideal implementation or practice to least desirable practice
These updated and redesigned manuals are now easier to use and include a literature review of recently published research related to each dimension. The manual for using the Stages of Concern questionnaire includes a CD-ROM with a program to help users score the questionnaire responses and create a profile for each individual.
This boxed set contains all three manuals, the CD-ROM scoring program, plus a DVD overview that includes interviews with the CBAM developers, Archie George, Gene Hall, and Shirley Hord.
While there are many models of school change processes available to education leaders and researchers, the CBAM, or the Concerns Based Adoption Model, is among the most respected. Refined through years of research and testing, the CBAM and related tools help school leaders plan school change by providing instruction in procedures. Researchers also rely upon these classics to track and report their findings.
