Classroom Compass is a collection of ideas, activities, and resources, for teachers interested in improving instruction in science and mathematics. This issue discusses models and resources for getting students to work together in cooperative learning. Two instructional activities, one providing suggestions for elementary students (Pumpkin Exploration) and one for higher grade classrooms (Choosing a Company Site), accompany excerpts on estimation and statistics from the Curriculum and Evaluation Standards for School Mathematics from the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM).
