This edition of LOTE CED Communiqué discusses the connection between practitioners, who concentrate on practical applications, and theorists, who focus primarily on the language acquisition process. Many good foreign language education practices are based on good theory, which in turn, is based on the observation of good practice, both communicative and pedagogical. In this paper, we examine the reciprocal relationship of some common practices associated with teaching for proficiency and the theoretical underpinnings that have influenced them.
