Quick Takes: Tracking Decisions Change Lives

Each Quick Take explores one important issue concerning the reform of mathematics and science education. Schools may use Quick Takes to communicate with their important audiences: parents, other community members, the media, and any other groups the school thinks might need information about their work. This February 2000 edition explores the emotionally charged issue of tracking, which sorts students into groups based on perceived level of ability. Both proponents and opponents of tracking advocate good education but some of their assumptions about education differ.
