In July 2010, SEDL hosted a forum on school improvement and the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). This meeting was intended to provide an opportunity for teams from state departments of education to learn more about the ESEA Blueprint through a presentation from, and discussion with, Dr. Carl Harris, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy and Strategic Initiatives in the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education at the U.S. Department of Education and Ms. Kandace Jones, Special Assistant for School Turnaround at the U.S. Department of Education.
The forum provided opportunities for educators in Texas and the states in the Southeast region to learn more about the six priority areas in the ESEA Blueprint through presentations and discussions with national experts and state and local education agency representatives who are actively engaged in practical applications in these reform areas.
