Brief
Description:
The Navajo Nation's Office of Teacher Education coordinates
teacher education programs. In particular, it coordinates the Navajo
Nation-Ford Foundation Project, which is a consortium comprising
regional colleges and Diné College (formerly Navajo Community
College). The purpose of this project is to prepare teachers to
teach the Navajo language. Qualifications required to teach the
Navajo language include fluency in the language, permission from
the tribe to teach the language, and state endorsement. It is not
necessary to be Navajo to participate in the teacher education programs.

Books and children's stories.
Support:
Funds come from Johnson O'Malley, a private foundation, and an American
Indian organization.
