Question 1:
Do you have to wear any special clothes?

Answer:
When we are on the deck of the boat helping get equipment on or off the ship we have to wear closed toed shoes, no sandals, and a life vest. At other times we don’t have to wear the life vest when we are on the deck. When we have safety drills we are to have our life vest with us, a hat, long pants, and long sleeve shirt. These items are to help protect us from the sun. We are not required to, but most of us wear a hat, sun block and sunglasses when we are outside.

Question 2:
What do you do at night?

Answer:
We eat dinner from about 5:00 to 5:30. If there isn’t work for us to do in the science lab we may wait for the sunset, watch a movie on the VCR or read. We send the CTD into the water to take readings and to get water samples at about 6:00 and it comes back up to the surface around 8:00-8:30. We run, or start, running tests on the water samples and finish around 10:00. Then we are on our own to watch movies, sleep or what ever we want to do.

Question 3:
Are you excited about doing this project?

Answer:
It is always fun to go, see, and learn new things, so we are excited to be here. Many of us have never been on a ship or boat for a month. The rocking of the ship is like being in a constant rocking chair and that is very relaxing. We are very excited.
