Alabama School Improvement Grants (SIG) 1003(g)

SECC is assisting the ALSDE Federal Programs' Office of School Improvement with transitioning to an online state-, district-, and school-level tool in collaboration with the tool's developer, the Center on Innovation and Improvement. SECC staff provide technical assistance and professional development for state grant coaches and district and school personnel in the use and implementation of the tool.

2012


September

During August and September, SECC staff supported the Office of School Improvement with meeting the SIG requirements of the teacher/principal stakeholder input in the development of the SIG teacher evaluation system and in preparation to pilot the evaluation system in School Improvement Grant (SIG) schools. SECC staff also aided the Office of School Improvement by facilitating a training-of-trainers orientation for ALSDE federal program coordinators responsible for ensuring program grantees are in compliance with Title I parental involvement requirements.


July

During July, SECC staff provided technical assistance to the ALSDE Office of School Improvement to support the development and implementation of the SIG school pilot of a new teacher and leader evaluation system that includes a student growth component. SECC staff also collaborated with the Office of School Improvement in preparation for parental involvement training for SIG grantees that was scheduled to be held on July 31 and August 1, 2012.


June

SECC staff met with staff at the ALSDE Office of School Improvement to plan and schedule parental involvement training for SIG grantees. SECC staff facilitated a training-of-trainers orientation for five ALSDE Office of School Improvement federal program coordinators who have responsibility for ensuring that their program grantees are in compliance with Title I parental involvement requirements.


May

In May, SECC staff and Center on Innovation & Improvement (CII) staff held a conference call with the Alabama Office of School Improvement to plan for the June follow-up training to be provided to Alabama’s SIG Cohort I. SECC staff also conferred with the state department regarding training for the new grant recipients (SIG Cohort 2) during the summer statewide Mega Conference and to further discuss options for continued use of Indistar beyond the current Comprehensive Center grant period.


April

In April, SECC staff held a conference call with the Alabama Office of School Improvement to begin planning for the statewide mega conference to be held during July 2012.


March

SECC maintained contact with staff from the Alabama Office of School Improvement although no specific assistance was planned for or requested this month. Next steps, in addition to aiding the office in its work with new grant recipients, will include beginning planning for the statewide mega conference to be held during the summer.


February

In February, SECC staff maintained contact with the Office of School Improvement, providing technical assistance as requested. Future support will include assisting the office in beginning work with the second cohort of School Improvement Grant recipients, with a focus on using the online management tool to support improvement planning, implementation, and monitoring.


January

In January, SECC staff, in collaboration with staff from the Center on Innovation and Improvement (CII), provided additional professional development to the ALSDE Office of School Improvement and School Improvement Grant recipients on the online tool for managing the improvement process. SECC and CII staff shared the components of a quality summary of improvement work for specific indicators and modeled a leadership team meeting.
