Working Systemically Content Area SurveyAbout the SurveyThe purpose of the Working Systemically survey is to collect perceptual data regarding the content area (e.g., mathematics, reading) that is the focus for improvement. It is intended to provide preliminary information that will help district and school leaders identify strengths and needs existing in their system regarding instructional leadership, collaboration, and alignment of instruction and assessment to curriculum and standards. Survey results are arrayed in a way to enable dialogue among district and school staff about factors that impact student learning. Results also often indicate additional data that might be collected to determine underlying conditions in the system that perpetuate current student outcomes. Survey results collected over time (e.g., at the beginning and at the end of a school year) may be used to determine improvement in the system. Suggestions for using the survey to promote systemic improvement and focus improvement efforts may be found in Working Systemically in Action: A Guide for Facilitators.
