Author: Eisenhower SCIMAST

Available online: text, PDF

Classroom Compass is a collection of ideas, activities, and resources, for teachers interested in improving instruction in science and mathematics. This issue's main article, Working for Reform, looks at the idea of teacher as facilitator - a basic part of the reformed classroom. You will find two classroom activities (one for young children, Mud Slide, the other for later grades, Stream Works) that illustrate some basic characteristics of the facilitator's role. The activities are linked to excerpts from the Benchmarks for Science Literacy, a publication of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
